The Majella National Park protects a vast area of high mountains in the Abruzzo Apennines between the provinces of Chieti, L'Aquila and Pescara. The karstic nature of the rocks makes it a place rich in caves, where animals hibernate and where people have built hermitages and places of worship.

Maiella (or Majella) National Park (Chieti, L'Aquila, Abruzzo) is a mountain nature reserve centered around the Maiella calcareous massif. The highest peak is Monte Amaro (2,793 m). The park is one of the three National Parks of Abruzzo, in the area between L'Aquila, Pescara, and Chieti. Its slopes are cut by long and rugged valleys.

Hire an e-bike to tour the foothills of Mount Majella National Park. Jul 2023 • Solo. I hired an e-bike from Ciclabile at 21 Via Carso in Sulmona to tour the park. The Ciclovidia is a well marked cycleway, a 20 km loop that visits the Abbey in the reserve. Highly recommended!
